TE Connectivity Commercial Grade Pro-Crimper III Hand Crimping Tool for PIDG, PLASTI-GRIP and PIDG FASTON Terminals

The Importance of a High-Quality Crimp

When a crimping tool is used on a terminal, two crimps take place at the same time. One is the electrical connection between conductor and terminal. The other is the insulation crimp which provides strain relief against vibration and tension. It is important that the electrical connection is gas tight without any voids between the wire strands and the terminal. If there any voids present, then corrosion can occur causing resistance and excessive heat which damages the electrical connection. Using a good quality crimping tool will ensure that a full, gas tight crimp is produced preventing future deterioration of the electrical connection and insulation breakage

PRO-CRIMPER III Hand Crimping Tool - Overview

From TE Connectivity a PRO-CRIMPER III commercial grade hand operated crimping tool consisting of a crimping tool frame and removable die assembly. Commercial grade hand crimping tools incorporate features for long lasting performance including a construction of durable high-carbon steel and extra strength pivot pins. The head of the crimping tool is angled to reduce hand-stretch and to allow an easier view of the crimp area. The handles have a reduced handle force and an ergonomic design reducing operator fatigue and making the tool easy and comfortable to use.
The tool frame has two handles and jaws (stationary and moving) and an adjustable ratchet. The die assembly consists of an anvil die and a crimper die which forms three crimping chambers which are colour coded according to the wire size. The die assembly is secured to the tool frame by a retaining screws and pins

SDE (Standard Die Envelope)

Commercial grade crimp tools use SDE (Standard Die Envelope) technology. SDE technology enables the dies to be used in different types of tooling within the same SDE system including, manual, battery, pneumatic and electric tools. There is no need to have separate dies fitted to each type of tool, saving time and costs. The dies are easily swapped from one type of tool to another by removing two screws

Adjustable Ratchet

The PRO-CRIMPER III crimp tool features an adjustable ratchet which the operator is responsible for setting. The adjustment is made using an adjustment wheel which controls the amount of handle pressure that is exerted on the jaws during crimping. The ratchet stays locked until the handles of the tool are fully closed and the dies are bottomed. This feature prevents partial crimps by ensuring that a full crimping cycle is achieved and enables the operator to repeatedly produce consistent, high-quality crimps.

Key Features and Benefits

• High carbon-steel construction for durability
• Extra strength pivot pins
• Ratchet control ensures that a full crimp cycle is achieved
• Standard Die Envelope (SDE) for flexibility and cost savings
• Colour coded crimping chambers
• Removable, interchangeable dies
• Angled head and ergonomic handles for user comfort

Product Application Information

The versatility of the SDE technology allows PRO-CRIMPER III tools to be taken from bench to production or into the field. Applications include R & D prototyping, networking applications, field installation work and on-site repairs in industrial, commercial or institutional applications.
