RS PRO Float and Thermostatic Steam Trap

Float and thermostatic steam traps from RS PRO have a spheroidal graphite SG iron body and stainless-steel internals. Built with an integral air vent, they are designed for all low-, medium-, and high-pressure steam heating and process equipment. Typical applications for these steam traps include unit heaters, heat exchangers, driers, jacketed vessels, and all applications where continuous drainage is essential.

How Does It Work?

Float Mechanism

The float mechanism incorporated into the device effectively manages condensation within the steam system. Condensation, which is denser than steam enters the trap which causes the float to rise. The float then opens a valve allowing the condensation to be discharged. Removal of condensation ensures the steam system remains free from potential efficiency losses and issues such as water hammer, which can be detrimental to the system's performance and longevity.

Thermostatic Mechanism

The thermostatic element responds to temperature changes by opening when the temperature drops, indicating the presence of air or non-condensable gases. This venting of air and gases is crucial because it can insulate and reduce heat transfer efficiency in the steam system.

Features and Benefits

  • Connections are female screwed

  • Modulating discharge

  • Discharges condensate at steam temperature

  • Unaffected by sudden or wide load and pressure changes

  • Excellent air discharge (by thermostatic air vent)

Variants Available Separately

Applications

  • Plumbing

  • Unit Heaters

  • Heat Exchangers
