RS PRO Expandable Silicone Rubber Coated Fibreglass Cable Sleeving
From RS PRO a high quality highly flexible expandable braided fibreglass cable sleeving coated with a silicone rubber coating for both protecting and insulating your cables and wires. This versatile cable sleeving has high-temperature capabilities of up to +235°C, is self extinguishing and is halogen free which means it doesnt release harmful gasses into the atmosphere when burnt. This silicone coated sleeving also has excellent resistance to oils, solvents and chemicals making it ideal for use in harsh and demanding environments. The flexible construction of this sleeve enables it to expand up to 1.6 times its original size allowing even the most awkard shapes to be covered and provides an ideal alternatibe to heatshtink when used in heat or flame sensitive environments
What is Expandable Braided Sleeving?
Expandable braided cable sleeving is used as an alternative to heatshrink tubing. The difference between expandable cable sleeving and heat-shrink tubing is that expandable sleeving doesn't require any heating or additional tooling making it convenient, cost-effective and easy to use. The open weave braiding of this cable sleeving simply expands over the cables and components and contracts to provide a tight-fitting cover. Braided sleeving protects wires and cables from damage caused by abrasion from sharp edges, high impacts, and vibration. Cable sleeving, depending on the material used, also gives the cable protection from chemicals and solvents.
Features and Benefits
Highly flexible
Can expand up to 1.6 times its original size
Halogen-free
Self Extinguishing (UL 1441 self-extinguishing VW 1)
Good dielectric strength
Excellent resisitance to oils, solvents, varnishes and aggressive chemical agents
Where is Expandable Silicone Coated Fibreglass Cable Sleeving Used?
This braided cable sleeving is lightweight and flexible and provides a protective covering and insulation for electrical wires, cables and flexible conduit and can also be used as a cable management sleeve for creating wire harnesses and bundling smaller cables together to keep your wires tidy. The unique thermal properties and high temperature protection that this braided sleeve offers make an ideal alternative to heat shrink tubing in heat or flame resistant applications.
How Do You Install Expandable Braided Cable Sleeving?
For a tight fit choose a cable sleeving diameter that is a smaller size than your application. For a more flexible fit select a cable sleeve diameter that is the same size or slightly larger than your application, this will ensure that the application is able to smoothly and easily move such as a bundle of wires. Once the correct cable sleeving size is selected you will need to cut the sleeve to the correct length. If the sleeve is not cut correctly it can fray. To prevent fraying use a hot cutting tool such as a hot knife or a soldering iron with a sharp tip. Slice the braid using even pressure to leave an evenly sealed edge on the material. While the end is cooling you can flare it using a small cone-shaped object to hold it open. Once the sleeve is cut to size simply push and slide the sleeve into place over the cable or fittings.
Warning
Dust or broken particles from this glass fibre sleeving can cause irritation to sensitive skin therefore care must be taken to minimise dust formation when handling or cutting
